An update on local issues:

Restoration of new footpath pavers – NBN in front of Niji

The issue with the footpaths restorations is being addressed through the utility restoration process.  Council has had multiples requests regarding this same area (ie corner of Borrodale and Anzac). It relates to work conducted for the Prince of Wales Hospital development in between Botany St & Hospital Rd, Randwick.  Council received an “asset opening permit” for this job and the Roads Team is currently following up with the utility/applicant as they are close to completion, estimated 3-4 weeks, once completed we will carry out restoration.

Garbage bins as there are none along the whole of Anzac Parade

Council’s officer inspected the area and advised that there is a total of 11 bins along Anzac parade (both sides) from Gardeners Road to Barker street. In addition to this there are litter bins located at each of the light rail stations.

Removal of posters from telegraph poles on a regular basis

Business centres are on scheduled daily program cleaning which includes bill posters removal. In addition, Council’s public place officers patrol the CBD and report any posters for removal. Council encourages residents to report issues including posters to 1300 722 542 and we respond to specific reports within two business days.

Removal of paint marking on footpath (utilities)

The paint markings on the existing pavers at Kingsford were painted as part of the light rail project.  Council has registered the marking as a defect with TfNSW and has requested that the light rail contractor pay for the cleaning and removal.

Welcome to Kingsford sign (possibility of including Kingsford Chamber of Commerce logo?)

Randwick Council has an approved Civic Signage Manual that provides a consistent family of signs for the various types of signs required.  The signs are designed in a totem style format to minimise the footprint.

Currently, the manual does not include a large Welcoming sign that is intended for passing motorists.  The reason is generally because there is insufficient space to place a large gateway entry sign within the limited space in an urban environment.

Given that the Kingsford town centre is predominantly located along Anzac Parade, the town centre can be designated by signage at either end in Anzac Parade.  Currently there is a 3m high suburb marker on the eastern side of Anzac Parade near Barker Street and duplication of this sign is not supported.

We can provide a similar style sign at the southern end of the town centre.  The sign would be located on the western side of Anzac Parade near Gardeners Road.  As it is not a physical suburb boundary, the sign would read, “ Kingsford Town Centre”.

The 2 options:

Retaining parklets and Street furniture

The street furniture at Meeks Street including the parklets was owned by TfNSW.  With the completion of the project, they have removed their furniture.  However, Council has begun planning to procure new parklets and street furniture to continue the activation of the plaza until the construction commences.

Meeks Street Plaza – Update

The Meeks Street Plaza concept design will be reported to the July Council meeting.  The design and documentation will be undertaken in accordance with the Council resolution.

Should you require any further information regarding these matters, please contact Council’s Director City Services, Mr Todd Clarke on 9093 6901.
